This movie is set against the backdrop of gang wars between two families in Kolkata, The Ghoshes and The Boses. The film takes its title from the term Ghilli - which means "a hired goon" or "attendant to a person of distinction".The Ghoshes are headed by Lt. Gen. Prasad Ghosh (Satyajit Ray), a retired army officer who became wealthy by manufacturing liquor during the Indian Prohibition era, while The Bosess are led by Mrs. Elizabeth Bose (Gita Sen) an Englishwoman who has inherited her wealth from her deceased husband Mr. Samuel Bose. The Ghoshes and the Bosess had been at loggerheads ever since the latter family moved into the latter 's neighborhood, which was previously their own. The Ghoshes consider themselves to be superior to the Bosess and see themselves as guardians of law and order in their area, while the Bosess consider themselves to be far superior to all other residents and enjoy ruling their turf with an iron hand. The Boses run a school for underprivileged children and have invested a lot of money in educating them. They also provide financial aid for those who cannot afford basic needs such as marriage expenses, medical care, clothes etc... When the Ghoshes are informed about this they feel threatened about their own son - Deepak Ghosh (Rajatava Dutta), who is also a law student, because he shows signs of becoming a Robinhood like the Boses. So, they order their musclemen - Gopal Ghosh (Kushal Chakraborty) aka GHULLI to eliminate him before he grows up to become a problem for them. However, Deepak gets wind of this and soon forms an alliance with Yash Sen (Arijit Singh) - who is not only his friend but also the son of the Bosess' principal bodyguard Khokon (Badsha Moitra). Meanwhile, the Bosess has an ambitious lawyer Seema Bose (Anu Ghosh) in their ranks. She is in love with the school's Principal Bhaskar Dolly (Mamta Kulkarni), who is also a good friend of the Ghoshes and is headed by Lt. Col. Natwar Ghosh (Ravi Kissen). The two families want to bring down the school and put it under their control, so they draw up a plan to make Elizabeth Bose - their enemy. While Elizabeth Bose is away with her daughter Leela (Hina Khan) on a vacation to Europe she has a heart attack and dies in London. When Elizabeth Bose's estranged son - Samuel Bose (Mahesh Manjrekar) re-enters the picture, the Ghoshes and the Bosess both see him as a potential threat to their respective plans and hatch a plan to eliminate him. The Ghoshes decide to kill Samuel Bose by sending a gang of four Ghoshes - Umesh Ghosh (Om Puri), Suresh Ghosh (Anupam Kher), Haripada Ghosh (Tinnu Anand) and Barsha Ghosh (Ranjeet) to go London on a holiday trip. cfa1e77820
